I own a pug and while at a routine vet checkup…my vet noticed that Buddys pupils werent contricting equally. His right eye is always dilated. This makes him more sensative in light since he cant regulate it.
Being a Seattle dog walker and pet sitter, I see a lot of dogs and I have never seen any with uneven pupils!
In humans uneven pupils means brain damage so I was worried and went to the eye doctor that my vet recommended:
Animal Eye Clinic
Dr. Sullivan
5339 Roosevelt Way NE
#B
(between 53rd St & 55th St)
Seattle, WA 98105
Dr. Sullivan is great! He is so nice, caring, understanding, gentle and genuinely loves animals!
In dogs there are a few reasons for the uneveness, but I was lucky and Buddys problem seems to be nerve related.
If your dog has any eye ailment, call the Animal Eye Clinic!
I just wanted to do a quick write up on the proper leash to use when walking a dog.
When asked, i let my clients know that I prefer a 4 foot dog leash. 4 feet, thats too short some say.
No, it is perefect and this is why…
In most cases, when a dog is on a walk, it is for exercise. How much exercise is a dog going to get if its on a long line sniffing and smelling everything? When it is allowed to go in the bushes, around trees, on the track of any smell it encounters. When you are untangling the leash from under the dogs leg every 5 minutes.
With a shorter leash, the dog walker has more control of the dog. The dog is next to the dog walker and they are walking together. The dog cant follow the smells and cant “mark” everything it wants to. The walk has now turned into a walk.
About halfway through the dog walk, it is perfectly fine to stop and let the dog take a break to sniff and potty. But then get back to the walk.
This will tire your dog out physically and mentally making it much happier and more tired! Your dog will respect you as its leader and after a feww weeks of structured walks, your dog will be better behaved.
Let me know if you have any questions. I can teach you how to walk your dog properly for $10.

What are you feeding your dog? Why did you pick that food?
If you picked whatever was on sale, you are doing your dog a huge injustice.
If you picked what you saw a commercial for, you are doing your dog another huge injustice.
If you looked at the quality of ingredients and picked your dogs food, thats more like it.
Dogs are at our mercy for what they eat. They have no say, no choice. Think of how you would feel if someone fed you crap because it was on sale or they just didnt know or care what was in the mixture of food they gave you.
If the foods you feed your dog is hurtingtheir tummy, making then feel sick, giving them cancer….you wouldnt
know because dogs cant talk.
So be a good pet parent and pick a food based on quality. Do minimal research and you will find that Pedigree, Science Diet, Eukanuba, Iams, Beneful, Purina are all LOW quality cheaply made harmful to your dog foods.
Dogs dont need corn, wheat, soy or artificial colors or chemical preservatives.
They need all natural human grade food. Afterall they are kids with fur and our best friends.
I feed Natures Variety kibble http://www.naturesvariety.com/ and Darwins, http://www.darwinspet.com/
On a good food your dog will feel better, act better and be healthier. You will notice a softer coat, less eye boogers, less tear stains and less of an allergic reaction in YOU. I break out in hives if I am around dogs that are fed bad foods. Yes my dog on raw can sleep in bed with me.
